Nubtshonapata Trek
The Nub Tshonapata Trek spans over 5 days, offering a captivating journey through the pristine wilderness of Haa valley in western Bhutan. This trail winds its way through refreshing forests of rhododendron and juniper, reaching spectacular passes soaring as high as 4,350 meters above sea level. Renowned for its uniqueness and undiscovered allure, this trek remains relatively unexplored by many. Alongside its rich local legends, the trek’s highlights include the stunning turquoise hues of Nub Tshonapata Lake, lush and untouched forests, and unparalleled vistas of the Himalayan peaks.
Day 1: Haa to Womji
Today marks the start of your trek as you embark on a gentle ascent towards the Talela Pass, situated at 3780m, amidst dense rhododendron and conifer forests. Continuing your gradual ascent, you’ll reach the yak herders’ camp at Tshojo. Further upward, you’ll climb to the Gochula Pass, reaching an altitude of 4200m. Beyond this pass, the trail follows a ridge before gradually descending to our campsite at Womji.
Day 2: Womji to Tsho Napata
Commence your trek with a steep ascent through dense juniper and rhododendron forests, leading to the Gochhila Pass at 4350m, offering breathtaking panoramas of the entire Tshejala range. Continuing onwards, you’ll traverse towards Tshejalum, passing by various yak herders’ camps. In the springtime, the trail adorns itself with a vibrant carpet of wildflowers. Your journey then takes you towards the Tshejala Pass, crossing the historic trade route from Haa to Tibet.
Day 3: Tahonatapa Halt
You will spend the day exploring the area around this sacred lake, visiting the yak herders camp, and seeing golden trout.
Day 4: Tshonapata to Tsojo
You’ll backtrack to the Gochhila Pass, then veer off onto a new path, ascending over a ridge to reach Lake Tsojo at 3780m. Just before reaching the lake, take a slight detour from the main trail for approximately thirty minutes to visit Ngatsho or Drum Lake and Dungkar Lake, where you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch. Following lunch, descend to the yak meadow campsite at Tsojo.
Day 5: Tsojo to Haa to Paro
On the final day of the trek, the trail gently descends through dense juniper and rhododendron forests until you arrive at the Talila Pass. After crossing the pass, you’ll re-enter the Haa Valley, marking the end of your trek. Transportation will be waiting to transfer you back to Paro, where you’ll spend the night at an altitude of 2350m.
Day 6: Departure from Paro
Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure from Bhutan.
