Jumolhari Trek

The Jumolhari Trek is renowned as one of the most scenic and rewarding treks in Bhutan, offering a perfect blend of wilderness adventure and cultural immersion. Spanning approximately 10 to 12 days, the trek takes you from the Paro Valley to the base of Mount Jumolhari, reaching altitudes of over 4,000 meters (13,000 feet) and offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, pristine lakes, and verdant valleys along the way.

Day 1: Arrive in Paro
Arrive at Paro International Airport. Transfer to your hotel and rest. Visit the Paro Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang in the afternoon. Overnight in Paro.

Day 2: Paro Sightseeing
Hike to the Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) early in the morning. Explore the monastery and enjoy the stunning views. Return to Paro for lunch. Visit other local sights in Paro if time permits. Overnight in Paro.

Day 3: Paro to Shana (Start of Trek)
Drive to the trailhead at Shana. Begin your trek to Thangthangkha. The trail follows the Paro Chu (river), passing through beautiful forests and villages. Overnight camping at Thangthangkha.

Day 4: Thangthangkha to Jangothang
Continue trekking along the Paro Chu. The trail gradually ascends with stunning views of Mt. Jomolhari (7,314m) and other peaks. Reach the campsite at Jangothang. Overnight camping at Jangothang.

Day 5: Acclimatization Day at Jangothang
Rest and acclimatize at Jangothang. Optionally, you can take short hikes around the area for better acclimatization and to enjoy the scenery. Overnight camping at Jangothang.

Day 6: Jangothang to Lingshi
Trek over the Nyile La pass (4,890m). Descend into the Lingshi Valley, passing beautiful yak pastures and remote villages. Camp near the Lingshi Dzong. Overnight camping at Lingshi.

Day 7: Lingshi to Shodu
Trek towards Shodu. Cross the Yelila pass (4,930m). Descend into the dense rhododendron forest. Camp near the Shodu village. Overnight camping at Shodu.

Day 8: Shodu to Barshong
Continue trekking through the forest, following the Thimphu Chu river. Pass through several small villages and farmlands. Camp near the ruins of Barshong Dzong. Overnight camping at Barshong.

Day 9: Barshong to Dolam Kencho
Trek through rhododendron and bamboo forests. Descend to the Dolam Kencho campsite. Enjoy the serene surroundings. Overnight camping at Dolam Kencho.

Day 10: Dolam Kencho to Thimphu (End of Trek)
Trek to Dodena. Drive to Thimphu. Explore Thimphu in the afternoon. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 11: Thimphu Sightseeing
Visit the Tashichho Dzong, National Memorial Chorten, Buddha Dordenma statue, and other attractions in Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 12: Departure
Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure. This itinerary provides a basic outline for the Jumolhari trek, but keep in mind that trekking conditions and schedules may vary depending on factors like weather and group preferences.
